I had many visions when I first started building the concept behind Vine & Vintage. Not only did I have a yearning to create one-of-a-kind experiences that would be memorable, but I also desired to work alongside people who shared the same dream of spreading their knowledge and passion to others. So I was thrilled when We Can Change the World Day Founder, Heather Skoll approached me to host a wine event in her home to support the charity.
“We Can Change the World Day started in 2013 as a York Region community organization that engages youth in volunteerism, leadership, and social action while raising funds for school classrooms in villages through the International Charity and Social Enterprise ‘WE’.”
“The Greener Side”, a wine package offered by Vine & Vintage, which focuses on wineries with an environmentally friendly philosophy following biodynamic, sustainable and organic practices was the perfect theme to align with the notions of We Can Change the World Day.
We even tasted a 100% Gluten-free wine to go along with gluten-free foods available for guests with food restrictions so they could join in on the fun!
We had a blast venturing through Chile, Canada, Italy and California as we discovered the interesting and different methods wineries use to be more “green” and improve the quality of their wine.
Mezza Pezza Primitivo was the first red wine of the evening and by far the most popular among guests. The small winery, Trullo di Pezza located in the heart of the Salento Peninsula in Italy, beautifully crafts certified organic wines to express the character and tradition of their land.
This Primitivo is well- structured, soft, balanced and easy to drink with notes of plum, cherry, vanilla and spice. It paired wonderfully with the selection of cured meats, Parmesan cheese and assortment of dark chocolate sweets that were served.
We Can Change the World Day has improved the lives of children in Kenya and India as well as helping local youth build skills such as event planning, organization, community relations, social media, and public speaking. We were happy to contribute to a little part of that and learn more about this amazing cause!
“Samantha brought a super fun and informative event to my home. We were 8 friends in support of my organization We Can Change The World Day so along with the theme of changing the world Sam selected organic, clean green wines, one which was GF certified.
Sam’s knowledge and presentation was great. I hope to tap in to Sam’s expertise for future events.”
